Surface Finishes for OEM Candle Jar Programs
Surface finishing changes the color, texture and visual character of a formed glass candle jar. Glavique supports frosting, spray coating, matte finishes, electroplating and selected decorative effects for candle brands, importers, packaging suppliers and private-label programs.
The appropriate process depends on the base glass, target appearance, order quantity and subsequent logo decoration. Buyers should confirm whether they require a translucent frosted effect, an opaque matte surface, a specific spray color or a reflective metallic finish.
Finishing is completed after glass forming and Annealing & Cooling. The base jars must be structurally suitable and sufficiently cooled before additional surface processing begins.
Frosted Glass Finishes
Frosting creates a translucent surface that softens the appearance of clear glass while allowing some light to pass through. It is commonly selected for candle collections requiring a clean, understated or premium packaging style.
Buyers should confirm the required frosting density, coverage area and whether any section should remain clear. The approved sample is used to compare the general texture and transparency during bulk production.
Frosted surfaces can also affect the appearance of printed logos. Logo color, line thickness and printing method should therefore be evaluated on the actual frosted sample rather than only on a digital artwork preview.
Spray Colors and Matte Coatings
Spray coating provides a wider range of custom colors and opacity levels. It can be used for full-surface color, matte effects and selected transparent or semi-transparent finishes.
A Pantone reference may be provided as a starting point where applicable. However, the appearance of a color can change according to the glass base, coating thickness, gloss level and lighting. A physical sample should be approved before customized bulk production.
Color development should also consider the jar lid, label, logo and branded packaging. These elements do not need to be identical in color, but they should be reviewed together as one packaging program.
For project preparation and available customization routes, see Custom Colors & Surface Finishes.
Electroplating and Metallic Effects
Electroplating and selected metallic finishes can create reflective gold, silver, bronze or other decorative effects. These finishes are more sensitive to surface cleanliness, handling marks and visible variation than standard clear glass.
Before quotation, buyers should provide the target metallic tone, finish coverage, quantity per color and reference sample if available. Complex metallic effects may require additional trials and a longer production schedule.
Logo decoration must also be considered early. The adhesion and contrast of silk-screen printing, decal or hot stamping can vary according to the finished surface. Details are reviewed further on the Logo Printing & Decoration page.
Sample Development and Approval
Existing unfinished jar samples are generally prepared in approximately 3–7 days. Customized color or finish samples normally require around 7–15 days, depending on the process and sample requirements.
The buyer should approve a physical sample for:
- Base glass and jar shape
- Color or frosting effect
- Surface coverage and texture
- Gloss or matte level
- Logo compatibility
- Lid and packaging coordination
Digital photos can support communication, but they may not reproduce color, transparency or metallic reflection accurately enough for final approval.
Bulk Production Checks
Bulk finishing follows the approved sample and confirmed specification. Routine checks focus on color consistency, surface coverage, visible marks, coating condition and variation between jars.
Inspection standards should account for the fact that glass and decorative finishes are viewed under different lighting conditions. The approved sample and agreed acceptance criteria provide a more useful production reference than general descriptions such as “perfect color” or “premium finish.”
Information Needed for a Finishing Quote
Send the jar reference, order quantity per SKU, required finish, color reference, coverage area, logo artwork, lid choice and packaging requirements. Also state whether the project is a trial order, repeat order or ongoing program.
Custom colors and finishes normally require higher MOQs than undecorated standard jars. Regular bulk production is generally around 25–35 days after approval, while complex finishes may require approximately 35–45 days.
Finished jars proceed to inspection and export preparation according to the approved sample. Relevant checks are explained on our Quality Inspection & Testing page.
